Giving Back to Our Communities

OMHAS donates two per cent of our income to local charities and two per cent to international causes, and we provide health and safety consultation at no cost to non-profit organisations and houses of worship.

Why we do this

Safety should not depend on a budget

A church, a food bank, a shelter and a community centre carry the same legal duties as any employer in Ontario. The people working and volunteering in them face real hazards: ladders, kitchens, cleaning chemicals, lifting, lone work, and the public.
What these organisations usually do not have is anyone whose job it is to think about that. Budgets go to the mission, and health and safety waits until something goes wrong.
So we do that part for them, and we do not charge for it.

What we give

Who this is for

Organisations that serve others

If your organisation runs on donations, grants or volunteers rather than profit, this is for you.

Houses of worship

Mosques, churches, temples and synagogues, including the volunteers who run kitchens, maintenance and events.

Community organisations

Non-profit community centres, youth programs, settlement services and similar organisations serving the public.

  • A walkthrough of your premises to identify the hazards that actually exist
  • A written health and safety policy suited to your size and activities
  • The programs your operations require, not a generic binder
  • Guidance on the training your staff and volunteers need
  • Plain answers about what the law requires of you

What you receive

The same work, without the invoice

We do not run a reduced version of our service for non-profits. The assessment, the documents and the advice are the work we do for paying clients.
The scope is agreed with you before we start, so you know exactly what is being covered and what is not. Larger or more complex operations may take longer to schedule, and we will be honest with you about that rather than promise what we cannot deliver.

We talk it through

A short conversation so we understand what you do, who is involved and where the risks sit.

Step 3

We assess and build

We walk your premises, identify the hazards and prepare the policy and programs your operation requires.

Step 4

We hand it over and explain it

You receive the documents and we walk your people through them, so the system is used rather than filed.
We do not publish the organisations we help or the work we do for them. It is not done to be shown. If you would like to speak with an organisation we have supported before deciding, ask us and we will arrange it.
